Atlanta, GA. The dental hygiene team of Goldstein, Garber, & Salama was recently quoted by RDH Magazine, a monthly magazine revolving around the latest advances and innovations in dentistry – more specifically, the dental hygiene industry.
According to RDH Magazine, periodontal disease affects 47.2% of the adult U.S. population, ages 30 and older. Aggressive periodontitis results in the loss of connective tissue and bone support. Periodontal probing in the hygiene operatory is one of the most common methods used in diagnosing periodontal disease. Although critical for accurate diagnosis, periodontal probing may be met with resistance from patients and clinicians.
In the PennWell Publication, the GGS dental hygiene team discusses the benefits of a new Colorvue periodontal probe developed by Dr. Ronald Goldstein for Hu-Friedy Corporation. A 100 patient survey focused on the probe’s ease of use, accessibility to areas being checked in the mouth, and accuracy. Overall, the hygienists found that 61% of patients preferred the new probe. The hygienists agreed that the Colorvue probes’ lightweight and ergonomically-correct handle-size were positive attributes.
The hygienists of Goldstein, Garber, & Salama also agreed the vibrant, color-coded ½ millimeter demarcations improved visibility and accuracy when compared to a metal probe with black color-coding. Similarly, the hygienists found the narrow, flexible tip allowed for easier access around natural teeth and implants.
Originally published in 1995, RDH Magazine engages dental hygienists across the United States. The publication’s mission is to educate dental professionals on state-of-the-art technology, procedures, and materials in dentistry.
