Laser Assisted Periodontal Surgery

The health of your mouth, teeth and gums has a direct impact on your overall health. This relationship has recently be coined the Oral Systemic Connection. Research has recently found that the same bacteria that cause gums to become inflamed can travel throughout the body, including to cells in the coronary arteries. Recent reports have linked gum disease with: Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Pregnancy problems, Increased risk of pancreatic cancer.

How Does Laser Gum Therapy Work?

Tartar associated with inflamed and bleeding gums, is removed from the root surface of the tooth using a ultrasonic scaler and small instruments. Then a light is applied between the gum and tooth removing the pathogenic bacteria.

Unlike traditional gum therapy, Laser Gum Therapy requires no cutting or stitching of the gum tissue, making the procedure nearly painless.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Assisted Gum Therapy?

Candiates for Laser Assisted Gum Therapy are those with red, swollen, bleeding or tender gums, chronic bad breath, and those who with periodontal disease.

After Treatment

Because there is no cutting or stitching involved, recovery time is significantly diminished. There is also decreased sensitivity and a reduced risk of infection. Most patients require no pain medication and can return to work immediately.
